M.C.I. Drill - October 3rd,1999
(Mass Casualty Incident Drill)

An M.C.I. Can occur at almost any scene. The definition of an MCI, is any time you have more patients than caregivers.

Our drill was based on a scenario of a loaded school bus overturned onto 2 private cars. (this type of an accident is possible in almost any community). We are part of the Putnam County Mutual Aid Plan. This plan is setup in the event that an incident exceeds the capacity of each of the local departments, An MCI is just one example of need for this plan. The mutual aid plan can be put into effect by any agency in the county. Not only does this plan allow for additional assistance at the scene, but also maintains coverage for any other incidents that may occur. (i.e. multiple ambulance or Fire calls in town) a mutual aid department may be called to cover one of our calls if we are already in service elsewhere.

This drill was made possible by the Putnam Valley fire department and our line officers.  We would also like to thank our some of our neighboring departments for assisting us with this drill, and on our actual emergencies.

Mohegan VAC, Garrison VAC, Phillipstown VAC, Cortlandt VAC and the various fire departments that took part in this exercise.
